This is a dog lover's worst nightmare - despite secure fencing and lots of watchfulness, a Basset that I've been dogsitting for a friend got out of my yard yesterday about 11 AM. He was spotted in the area about 4:30, so may be sticking close, but my house and the house across the way both back up to hundreds of acres of dense woods, swampy land that's hard to get through for a person (but perfect for a dog with a good nose), and is criss-crossed by fast-moving rural roads.
We were out looking all afternoon yesterday, and have signs up. But please, if you read this, please cross-list, link and cross-post widely - particularly if you know anyone in the Olympia, WA area.
RANGER WENT MISSING AND HAS BEEN SPOTTED SINCE BETWEEN 88TH AND 93RD ON LITTLEROCK ROAD SW, SOUTH OF TUMWATER IN THE COUNTY, TO THE WEST OF THE FREEWAY.Ranger is a sweet and gentle boy, and he'll come to friendly voice. He's wearing a collar, tagged and microchipped. His mom REALLY wants him home. His picture above, is very reflective of his usual posture - nose to ground, tracking the good stuff. He did not get the short-legged gene, so he looks a lot like a Bloodhound puppy, and acts just about as goofy.
Please help us find him...Thank you!
Make sure you put it on Craigslist.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to contac his microchip company so they can put him on their hot list. Also, check with all local shelters..every day. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you for these suggestions - we've followed up on both. Another day of fruitless searching, but we got a LOT of flyers up in the business area people use locally, and I'm hopeful that Saturday as people go about their errands, these will help get the word out. We got one call already from a flyer at the grocery store, reporting a sighting yesterday, so perhaps tomorrow or even this evening will bring more news. Thanks so much for your suggestions!
ReplyDeleteWhat part of Olympia is close to where you live? For example, are you near Tumwater, Lacey, East Olympia, Capitol Forest, the west side, etc.? When I know the vicinity, I'll send the alert to people I know in that area.
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK.
Thank you for your comment, I've added location to the original post, but here it is:
ReplyDeleteSouth of Tumwater, between 88th and 93rd on Littlerock Rd SW. He went missing at 91st, but has been seen as far north as 88th.
Thank you!
I'm too far to help look, but I'm spreading the word! Good luck in getting him home soon, and safe!
ReplyDeleteUpdate - Saturday afternoon:
ReplyDeleteStill no luck getting Ranger actually home. But some good news - he was spotted earlier this afternoon moving alive and well down a county easement close by. Another report of him eating from a trash can yesterday, and some earlier reports, have started to give us a sense of the area that he is sticking to...
The flyers seem to be working - we are definitely getting calls about him from them.
The other thing that is working is people sending out information about Ranger to others on their contact lists, email lists they participate in, any dog-related contacts....this has yielded a lot of good information and a solid sighting, so thank you, and please keep it up!
I painted a Lost Dog sign on the back window of my car today, so that as I drive around, I'm a "moving billboard" - a great suggestion from the Missing Pet Partnership. They organize volunteers to make their cars into moving ads for missing pets, and are always looking to cover more areas - as soon as Ranger is found, I'm going to volunteer to do this for others in the Olympia area. Find the info here - maybe you can start a project in your community!

We've put out tons of flyers in commercial areas, and to the households in the areas where he is traveling. His owner has a call in to a K9 search team.
And mostly, we're thrilled that he was sighted alive and apparently well this afternoon!
Thank you for the good wishes. Keep ideas coming. PLEASE CROSS POST AGAIN so that people know that he is still missing and we are still looking!
